Colloid silver is a dietary supplement used by many people to enhance their immune systems. Silver colloidal are extremely small particles of silver suspended in water to allowed them to be ingested by humans.
When used as a dietary supplement, colloidal silver assists the body in maintaining the best health. Minerals in the body, such as silver colloids have a building and regulating function. These functions have an effect on soft tissues, like ligaments, muscles and tendons, and bones. Minerals also help regulate the heartbeat, improve nerve responses, smooth the transportation of oxygen, aid in blood clotting and regulate the internal pressure of body fluids.
Silver colloids were discovered in the 1800s and many people would place silver dollars in milk to help preserve it. Before 1938 many physicians used silver colloidal as an antibiotic, but this was prior to the pharmaceutical industry development of drugs that were cheaper to produce and returned greater profits.
Colloidal silver experienced a mini-resurgence in the second half of the 20th century when Dr. Robert O. Becker discovered that silver ions promoted bone growth as bacteria nearby were killed. The March 1978 issue of “Science Digest” published an article on colloidal silver called “Our Mightiest Germ Fighter.” It stated, in part, that “silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic fights perhaps a half dozen different disease organisms; but silver fights some 650. Moreover, silver is virtually nontoxic.”
